He decidido no cambiarlo.

Me chifla.

Uganda 3 abril 2022

It is already the 11th of April. I wrote my first post a few days ago, on the 3 of April. I have decided not to change it. By the way, the electricity is not back yet....

On Friday 25th March after a 36 hour journey I arrived at Kelele Lodge in Kimya, in the Kabarole region of West Uganda. The setting of the lodge is breathtakingly beautiful, very very green and lush. Surrounded by fields of Mutaka (bananas, small and very tasty) and tea plantations. We are in the rainy season and rarely a day goes by without rain.
Kelele Africa is an NGO that started 10 years ago and right now on the grounds we have a nursery and primary school, a sewing workshop and the lodge, which mainly accommodates volunteers.

I have now been here a little over a week and it is very difficult for me to describe in words everything I have experienced so far. Time stands still, time goes on. Here the feeling of time is not the same as in Spain, it is very different. We live more from day to day. Five days ago the electricity went out, and it hasn't come back, and it doesn't look like it will ever come back. We manage with a solar panel and a generator in the place where I give the course. At 19.30 it gets dark and the few lights that illuminate us go out little by little. I usually go to bed around 22.00 with all the sounds of the tropical night, a real concert of all kinds of bugs, crickets, frogs, birds....  I love it so much.

The photography course takes place in the social centre, which is about 10 minutes walk away.
I started the course last Tuesday after having had a first contact with my students on Monday. What can I say about them... they are great, they are young people between 20 and 30 years old who are very excited about the course, and above all about the opportunity they have to train as photographers. It's a pity that there is only one girl in the class, who is also the hairdresser at the same social centre.

The weekdays are very intensive, in the morning I get up around 7 am, do some yoga, at 8 am we have breakfast and then I go to the social centre.
Sometimes I walk, sometimes they pick me up with the boda boda, which is a motorbike. I have two classes, in the morning and in the afternoon. In the morning from Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and in the afternoon from Tuesday to Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. Especially the days with two classes are very intense. It was tiring at the beginning, but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time.
At the moment in the course I am teaching the basic techniques of photography, ISO, aperture and speed. We are going slow, but... sure! I am convinced that there is a lot of talent and creativity and I am looking forward to seeing it.

It's 19.17, we will soon have dinner. I'll keep you posted, thanks to all of you who helped me. Thanks to you this project is possible!

Below some photos of the Kelele Africa lodge and its wonderful view at Lake Mwamba, the "Boda Boda" picking me up to go to the social centre and photos with my students and the wonderful kids of this place. Soon another post more pictures!
